Holidays, Anniversaries and 80th Birthdays for the Steyls

December was a busy and relaxing month for the Steyls of Kosmos, I was on holiday from the 2nd till the 28th, Juanita did one last flight for 2006 to Rwanda, Arusha, London, Edinburgh and Prestwick and returned home via Kigali on the 9th for a well deserved rest.
Johan Jr. completed his Beech 1900 Rating and flight tests with Captain Robinson (See previous posts) and had to rush back to Windhoek to put it all to good use and start making some money for his company and himself.
Louis agreed with his boss, to stay in Malawi until the end of December for Nyassa Air Taxi since they had quite a lot of flights to do during this period.

We started celebrating the festive season by having a lovely get together and dinner with the De Beer (Juanita's maiden name) side of the family at Jannie and Marlize's house in Johannesburg.
The next big date for the Steyls was the 56th anniversary of Oupa Johan and Ouma Rina which also included the celebrations of both their 80th Birthdays. This event was a lunch held at the Vroue Monument in Bloemfontein on the 15th of December and 118 guests accepted invitations for this. Juanita and Myself flew to Bloemfontein in the Cessna, also a significant flight since negotiations about selling the trusted little airplane is quite far and by mid January she might be sold and delivered but more about that in a later post.

The lunch in Bloem was a great success, Piet was Master of ceremonies, and I proposed a toast to my parents and several friends and family making speeches, congratulating them and reminiscing about the last eighty years. Juanita told the guests about some extremely funny times she had years ago at the Million Dollar Golf tournament with Ouma Rina.

The next day we flew home to pack for our holiday in Plettenberg bay and gave a lift to Catherine and Janine Steyl from Harrismith who also attended the lunch in Bloemfontein.

Although we had quite a headwind and the flight time stretched to two and a half hours it was still a lot better than driving five hours. Here they are after we landed at Hartebeespoort dam.
